In this episode Aarron and I drive to Carlsbad CA to meet up with Dan Mann at Fire Wire Head Quarters. Dan shares his thoughts and breaks down the board attributes on Slater Designs new Groveler model the No Brainer.

I pick up two stock boards and put them through the paces in waves ranging from 1-4’. After thorough testing my thoughts on the No Brainer are…. best in 1-2’ surf with excellent down the line speed, projection through maneuvers, and paddles great too.

As the waves got a little bigger the No Brainer performed best in the pocket surfing it off the back foot. The more I sat down in my turns and drove this board in 3-4’ surf off my back foot the crisper and cleaner my turns were. If I surfed the No Brainer from a neutral or front footed posture in 3-4’ surf the board would catch due to its lack of belly rocker.

I recommend the No Brainer as a small wave Groveler that goes best in 1-2’ surf and highly recommend it for surfers from upper end beginner/intermediate to Expert level. I had a great time on both boards but I preferred the 5’3” over the 5’4” due to better maneuverability in tighter transitions.
