In this episode, Joel Bishop takes the lead on the Firewire Spun Honey review and puts this small-wave board through its paces in a variety of conditions.

Joel starts at his local breaks in Pismo Beach, California, breaking down the Spun Honey’s shape, rails, and overall design before taking it on a trip to Indonesia. In some small, fun waves over there, Joel really started to connect with the board. Riding it as a thruster, he found the Spun Honey fast, loose, and a ton of fun when the waves were smaller. But as the surf picked up, the board became a little harder for him to control.

That’s where the review shifts to Noel at Waco Surf.

At 5'4" and 27.6 liters, the Spun Honey was on the bigger side volume-wise for Noel, and going into the test, he wasn’t sure how well it would work in the pool. With the extra volume and lift, he thought it might be difficult to control in Waco’s tight, powerful pocket.

But the Spun Honey completely surprised him. Noel tests the board as a quad, thruster, and twin + trailer, breaking down how each setup changes the board’s speed, hold, release, and overall feel. Each fin configuration brought something different to the table and showed just how versatile the Spun Honey can be.

To round out the review, Joel brings in his buddy Walt from Pismo Beach, who owns a Spun Honey and calls it one of the best groveler-style boards he’s ridden to date. Walt shares his experience with the board, including the different fin setups he prefers and why this board has become such a standout for him.  

This episode looks a little different from our typical Surf n’ Show review because Joel did it his way—and I think you guys are going to dig it.

From Pismo Beach to Indonesia and finally Waco Surf, we tested the Spun Honey with multiple surfers, different waves, and several fin configurations.
