In this episode, Cam Richards and I put the new CI Solution through its paces. I rode it at Waco Surf, where the new Wave One is a totally different wave than the old Advanced Wave One. It has a flatter face with less of a lip, so I really had to manufacture my turns.

What impressed me about the Solution was that the harder I pushed it onto rail and drove through my turns, the more the board responded. It absolutely squirted with speed, even on that flatter, mushier wave.

Once I moved into Waves 2, 3, and 4 at Waco, the board really came alive. Those waves remind me of a punchy little beach break, and the Solution felt right at home. It surfs the pocket like a true high-performance shortboard with no real limitations.

When Britt Merrick talks about the new rocker, he’s referring to a more staged rocker design. There’s a little more entry rocker, a low-to-medium exit rocker, and a relatively straighter section through the middle. That combination gives the board quick acceleration, easy glide, and excellent paddling, especially in smaller waves.

Overall, I think the CI Solution generates speed effortlessly and is going to be a great board for a lot of surfers in our community.

Cam’s perspective was just as impressive. He’s from the East Coast, but he tested the Solution in small Hawaiian waves with softer, flatter faces, and he was absolutely ripping. Whenever a section stood up, he laid into big carves and even launched a couple of impressive airs. It really showed how much speed and pop this board can generate, even when the waves aren’t offering much.
